Thanksgiving is arguably the most celebrated holiday after Christmas and Halloween in the US and it may be the most important dinner of the year as well.
Being in the United States (or in a foreign country), if you are unaware of how people celebrate the harvest festival, this blog is for you.
Following are the five questions (including how to celebrate the day) that will come useful to you.
What is the holiday?
Followed by the Halloween, Thanksgiving is a celebration that started with the Harvest Festival and is more about the family coming together and being thankful for the same. With a lavish supper that is shared by the family, the time is about showing gratitude towards all the blessings that have been given to them all.
Where did it all start?
It is said that the first Thanksgiving was about the Pilgrims inviting the local Native Americans with them. However, it wasn't until 1621 when the day became an annual tradition. With the entire celebration going on for 3 days, Thanksgiving hasn't celebrated again till 1789. It was then that the then President George Washington announced it to be a National Thanksgiving Holiday.
Later on, with all the trials and turbulence in the history, it was decided that the holiday will be celebrated as a federal holiday on the last Thursday of November every year.
