You must have been there and done that! Of yes, I am talking about taking turns to dive with your family and friends at beaches or the swimming pools. However, have you ever walked down the lanes of history of men's swimwear or its aspects or even how to buy it well? So, starting from the history, let us look at the changing trends in the different years and how the lengths went from small to big and again big to small.
Brief History of Men's Swimwear
As it has been recorded in the books or paintings, swimming dates back to the ancient times and has been reserved for the elite class.
Ancient Times: So, I as was mentioning that swimming has always been a prevalent activity done by the men without wearing anything. Simply put, they preferred bathing nude.
1910's: Tank suits were the most famous swimsuits sported by the male population back then. Men went head over heels for the modest pairs that allowed them to bathe freely without being spotted by anyone.
1920's: With the emergence and popularity of fashionable swimsuits, British industry introduced another style known as Speed Suit that was a single piece with defining trunk. The long sleeves of the tank suit had disappeared and were replaced by a generous cut in the armhole.
1930's:Speedo swimwear was introduced in the first Olympics held in the year 1932. By the end of 1930s, views of bare-chested men softened and shorts became the standard swimwear, with those wishing to cover up more opting for boxer-style swimming trunks.
1950's: After almost two decades, swimwear for men was getting shorter and much attention was being given to the length as well as the designs and colors. Terry-lined cabana sets, which went along well with boxer-style trunks and shirts with loud designs including Hawaiian prints, reigned supreme for pool parties now enjoyed by the semi-affluent. Designs have really evolved now with more color and greater attention to detail.
1970's to 2000: In the duration of these many years, many styles came and went straight out while others like swim boxer trunks, Lycra made shorts, loose fitted Boardshorts and more came to stay.
2000 till date: You can easily find the plethora of styles available for the modern male population. As you must have noticed that the shorter lengths are coming in style while the lengthier ones never went out of fashion. Fabrics like polyamide, polyester, nylon made their way into the industry while cotton was also sometimes preferred. However, the emphasis is placed on comfort and rapid drying, as well as durability and color retention.

Swim trunks are the most commonly used swimwear by men. The reason behind it is the conservative coverage while defining the package well in the sexy designs and pouch options. These feature a tighter-fitting lining inside the shorts. Colors and inseam lengths can vary widely.
Boardshorts are a longer version of trunks that go almost till the knee or just above that. They are roomy, comfortable and very sophisticated. Originally developed for "board sports" (surfing, paddle-boarding, etc.) they were designed to have less material that could catch as you mounted your board.
Getting something for the conventional personalities, swim briefs are often called "speedos", a trademarked brand that has been popular for many years. Just like men's brief underwear, swim briefs sit close to the skin and feature a snug fit.
Square-cut shorts are more like trunks, but are a body-hugging style that provides more coverage from the waist till the upper thighs. An elongated version of swim briefs, these are less revealing and feature a boxer look.
Jammers
Jammers are meant for sporty personalities. These are body-hugging, knee length and very sporty. Made for competitive purposes; jammers are very appealing and functional.
