Every year on the second Monday of October comes the Celebration of "Columbus day" in The United States of America (USA). The festival holds a special significance from a historical point of view. In the year 1492, Christopher Columbus, a famous sailor, made a successful sea voyage to America and with this he set off "The Age of The New World". The discovery of The New World (America), and the success that came from it lead to the Celebration of Columbus day all over The USA. The main agenda of Columbus's trip was for gain of the Empire of Spain, and the riches that came from this discovery grew beyond the reach of Spain.  The 13th of October, 1492 holds great historical importance and is celebrated every year as a patriotic day all over The U.S. There are various fun as well as social activities organized at many places for celebrating this day with great enthusiasm. Columbus Day parades are organized in cities like New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Boston, San Diego and many more to reflect the joy and happiness behind union of Italian-American culture.  In 1992, the name "Columbus Day Parade" got replaced to "Italian Heritage Day Parade". This parade is organized with full pride and determination, wherein people from all over the world perform marches. In order to make this parade an exciting and memorable event, parade committees focus on entertainment that brings out very large groups to celebrate each year.  A typical parade may have red carpet performances that include folk dances and joyous music along celebrity guests. Columbus Day Bazaars are also organized, mostly at Catholic churches and schools. These bazaars are fun-filled events that include games and plenty of food. Throughout the country kids have a lot of fun on Columbus Day.  Aside from all of the activities that are to be had in many cities, some school districts close that day in observance of the holiday so kids start their days by sleeping in. October is here and so are the festivals, so go and enjoy your Columbus Day safely and with your friends and family and the rest of the country. Related Stories:
